Instructions on how to ship your headstock:

  1. To remove the headstock from the way tubes:
    • First place a board on the Bench Tubes and lower the saw table until it’s legs are just below the Bench Tubes and close to the hinge end  and lock it in place.
    • Now unlock the Headrest Lock and raise the Way Tubes as if you were going to place the MARK V in drill press mode.
    • legs rest on Slide the board under the table legs and lower the Way Tubes so that the table the board.
    • Now remove the end cap. Screws may be on the top or beneath the end cap.
    • loosen the headstock lock all the way and slide headstock off the way tubes.  
  2. Remove the handle so it doesn’t get bent in shipping.
  3. Use adequate packing material to protect the headstock from shipping damage.
    • Do Not use newspaper for packing.
    • Do Not build a wooden box either.
    • Instead purchase from the UPS Store 20 feet of their heavy bubble wrap, a heavy duty box at least 20″ x 20″ or 22″ x 22″ and several bags (3-4) of Styrofoam.
    • Now you CAN use three or four layers of large bubble wrap to completely cover the headstock including the  holes. Wrap to cover the front and rear as the top and bottom are not as critical. 
    • Be sure to protect the Quill/Spindle end of the headstock with as many layers of the bubble wrap as possible.
    • Now prepare a heavy duty box either 20″ x 20″ or 22″ x 22″  with at least 4 to 5 inches of Styrofoam in the bottom.
    • Set the bubble wrap  covered headstock with  speed dial up into  the box (the holes in the headstock must be covered so  the Styrofoam doesn’t get inside the headstock).
    • Be sure there is 4″ between the quill and drive ends of the headstock and the side of the box.
    • Now fill the box with more Styrofoam being sure to stuff it down and cover the top of the headstock.
    • Be sure to include your name address and PHONE number inside the box so that we can contact you. Indicate if you require an estimate or not.
    • Seal the box with packing tape and your ready to go.
    • Estimate the weight at 60 lbs.
    • This type of packing will arrived in good shape. DON’T place the speed dial facing the bottom of the box or it might get bent.
    • Use enough insurance to replace the unit if lost or damaged in shipment ($1,500 to $1,600). Currently a new headstock runs $1604.24.
    • The unit is heavy (55 to 60 lbs) so be sure to use enough packing material to prevent the headstock from shifting during shipment resulting in costly damage.
  4. Ship via UPS ground to Woodworking Academy, 6325 Rushingbrook Dr., Raleigh, NC 27612.  
  5. Call or e-mail us to let us know the unit is on the way.
  6. We accept cashiers check or money order only as payment before returning the unit to you.
  7. For a 3.2% fee we will bill you via Pay Pal so you can pay with a credit card.
